Nao Santa Maria Leaves Newburyport Harbor

In the early morning hours of June 10, 2019 just after sunrise, the Santa Maria cast off its lines and fired up its engines. the crew left on the outgoing high tide. A small group of hardy well wishes saw thing off at the dock and off the northern tip of Plum Island.Two woman displayed a Spanish flag and the Santa Maria crew rang their bell in response.

Nao Santa Maria

A replica of Christopher Columbus' ship Santa Maria arrived in the wee hours of Saturday June 1. It will be docked at Newburyport until Monday June 10th. It is open daily for tours. Tickets can be purchased dockside.
