Spur Jetty Damage as of April 2019

The north jetty itself has held up well. It has maintained its shape, no major displacements of stones have been observed. The same cannot be said for the spur jetty. The previous winter's strong storms had done some damage to it. However, despite the lack of any major storms for the winter for 2018/2019, the spur jetty has continued to fall apart.The damage has become very apparent in the last few weeks.

The outside of the boulders have develop a coating of green growth. If you look at the the boulders on the top, many of them have been flipped over and the green algae is now on the underside. (click on photo to enlarge)

In the previous photo you may have noticed a low spot in the top of the spur jetty.  This photo shows the low spot between two higher sections of the spur jetty. Many of the stones in low the spot have been displaced and rolled down to the beach.

The displaced stones can be seen on the beach side.

In the foreground is the spur jetty. In the background is the main jetty. The difference in the condition of the two is a stark contrast. The main jetty has held its shape. The spur jetty tumbled in appearance.
