Boom Hydraulic Piston Assembly

The next day, Tuesday April 28, assembly of the big CAT 390F excavator continued. The "smaller" CAT 349E excavator was used to lift the hydraulic pistons into position to be attached to the boom. One of the crew members unbolted the plug and the piston was extended so it lined up with the connection point. The plug was inserted but would not go all the way in. So, they used the prong of the forklift to push it. Finally, the boots were tightened. The same procedure was for used for the second piston.

With the plug removed the next step was ....

... to extend the piston until it lined up.

The prong of the forklift was used to push the plug back.

The plug was bolted in and an automatic grease line was hooked up.
